Metalhead in Munich: The Raw of Spring

The Raw of Spring

Servus!

This Spring is all over Munich now, and I love it! What better way to celebrate it than to attend a Gig called "The Raw of Spring"? The event was in the Youth Center of Haar, which is a little bit outside Munich. Two trains and a bus later (this proves how motivated I was), I discovered this small but sympathetic place.

Once in a while, I enjoy gigs in this kind of place. It's simple, not pretentious at all, and the bands' members headbang with you when their set is done. The acoustic is not perfect, and some problems occurred, problems that could be unacceptable for a bigger gig, but no one really cares. Everyone go there to have fun. I like it, and I also think it's important for bands to do so. It brings them back to the beginning and it also gives the younger the opportunity to attend it, younger who  can't always attend concerts in bars or bigger places.

Rapture

It was my second time seeing them live, and this is the band that actually convinced me to go. After their performance at The Dark Side on Munich, I really wanted to see them again, just to confirm that I like them. And I do. I don't want to repeat what I've already written about the band, but at the same time it's still true. They have an energetic presence on stage, and they enjoy what they're doing, it's obvious. They have this attitude "We're having fun over here, we hope you're having fun over there!" I feel I could drink beers with them and say jokes and shit all night long.
And the music itself? An original sound, but difficult to describe. I feel they incorporate elements from everything. I've heard a bit of all metal genres. I like it, that's why I find them original, they have their own style. Just go on their Website and find out by yourself!

Arbor Ira

I first saw the violin: I was interested. Then, I saw the cello: I was intrigued. And last, I noticed the carillon: All my attention was dedicated to them. I didn't know what to expect at all. How can I sum up everything? With 2 words: Holy Moly! Where should I start?
First, the vocals. The singer, Blum, combines growling and clean voice. His growling is okay. Nothing special, but fine. However, when I heard his clean voice, I was totally flabbergasted. He has a deep, manly and velvety voice. He almost reminded me of Matt Barlow's voice, when he sings in the deeper tons. I wish I could fall asleep on this voice every night.
And then, the sound itself. These guys are epic. I especially liked the solos with the violin. I've never thought the mix of violin, cello and bass would be so hypnotizing. There is something with this combination, I'm not really sure what, but it makes your inside vibrate. This is silly, right? I've personally never heard something like this before. In Power Metal, yes, but Arbor Ira does not really got into this direction. They play a Doom-Death Metal. These long and epic solos give them a hint of Power metal accent, but it is more punctual than anything else. Big, big Love.
Check out their Website, they have an interesting lay-out, and you can listen to what they do.

Angry Theory

When I saw the singer going on the stage, I thought "I knew it!" This guy has headbanged next to me during the Rapture part, and I knew he was a singer, or he should be one. He has this charismatic energy a lot of frontmen have.
What do they play? I would say a mix of Heavy Metal and Death. They have some growlings (which could be a bit better, to my opinion) but the music is pretty clear. They don't have as much distortions as a "regular" Death sound. It is not very heavy and dirty, neither very fast, which brings me to say a heavy metal-ish style. They are a pretty young band, they were founded in 2012. I personally don't find anything astonishing about them, but they have potential. I would like to see them evolving, where they bring their music with time. Here is their Facebook page!

Ossarium

I have seen this name a lot in the pasts month, but I've always missed them for some reasons. Guess what? I missed them again. How crazy is it? I thank the not-so-great public transport of Haar for that. I had to leave earlier to catch the last bus, so I couldn't stay for Ossarium. I wished so hard that they would not play last, but because Life never hears me, or Life hears me and just makes fun of me, Ossarium played last.
It will be for some other time!

Great gigs with great bands. I'm glad I attended it!

Cheers Metalheads! \m/
