Metalhead in Munich: Combustion - Death Metal

Combustion - Death Metal

Servus!

As I promised in my last post, this one is entirely dedicated to Combustion, a Death Local band from Munich. I saw them live for the first time at the Revolution Contest 2014. They played as Special Guest since they arrived second place at the Contest 2013.

Since a couple of years, we use a lot of different words to label and categorize Metal. Our beloved music evolves, new sub-genres appear, bands experiment and create new sounds. We try to put Metal in boxes and categories. It sure makes it easier to describe a band's music to someone who has never heard their sound. But sometimes, all these fancy words don't work. There are bands that just don't fit in any cases we try to create, and there are bands that represent what the genre was at the beginning. Without any artifices or trendy words. They are just Death Metal. Death Metal without other adjectives. Combustion belongs to them.

This long introduction is only there to tell you they're terrific. I would not place them in the same line as Possessed and Death, which have a clearer sound, higher tons and more technical parts. To my opinion, Combustion is more in the range of Kataklysm and Morgoth. A dirty sound with deep and low growlings. They don't have a very fast tempo though, I would say their speed is medium...? Because of it, I understand why they also label themselves as Groove Metal. Once again, these are only words, and  it's difficult to put words on something you actually feel. What I feel while listening to them is ferocious Brutality.

They bring your Metal instinct to the surface. Their music is so overwhelming, you need to headbang. You need it. And because their speed is not so fast, to me at least, they have the perfect rhythm to headbang. It is sometimes so brutal that, personally, I just want to take a chair and destroy it against the wall. I don't do it, because I am lady (haha yeah, right!), and Ladies don't do such things. But gosh! its violent!

I'm gonna be there for their two next gigs, there is no doubt about it. You can find the exact moment of their next concerts on their Facebook page and hear a bunch of their songs on their MySpace

Here is one of the only good pictures I've managed to take during the Revolution Contest 2014. Because I am proud of it, I'll share it with you.

Let's Share the Death Love.

Cheers! \m/
