Hi Metalheads!

One of my New Year Resolution was to support my Locals, especially when we talk about music. I want to discover the local metal scene of Munich, and to support these bands that work so hard to make good music. And yesterday was an amazing occasion to emerge myself in the Death/Black Metal scene of my adopted town. I was pleasantly surprised by the awesomeness I've seen and heard, because the 8 bands were good. According to my personal taste, some were more outstanding than others, but still, all bands gave a good show. 8 bands, one crazy night.

The second band was Abysmal. I liked them, but I was not as impressed as I was for Renegade, or for others bands later. Their performance on stage was great, the music was good, but not outstanding. I find them a little bit too...generic? I might have this idea because they played right after a more brutal band, but still. The room was still pretty empty at this moment, so it probably didn't help. I would like to see them again, to forge a stronger opinion on their music. But still worth a try!

To my opinion, the gig really started with the third band, Saeculum Obscurum. Just before they started, all the crown gathered in front the stage, and I felt this was the real beginning of the concert. This band was among the few I knew before the gig, but I'd never seen them live. How can I described them? Simply awesome, I guess. (!!) I already wrote a post about their music, so I will not repeat how much I love what they do. But seeing them on stage was an unexpected experience. Their costumes, the lights, the mist, the staging, wow, just WOW! They create a mystic, quasi antic atmosphere, and you have to watch them.

You know how you can sometime look at your phone during a concert, and do not have the feeling you're missing something, because you hear the music? Well, with Saeculum Obscurum, your eyes are amazed, like your ears. I was so fascinated by their performance. I love them, I really do, and I'm gonna hunt their next gigs for sure!

The fourth band was Skrotum. I must say, I judged them before they even started to play. I should not do that, but I do, and we all judge others. I first saw the singer with skinny jeans, a kinda emo haircut and stretches in his ears. I don't care about looks...but I still judged him at the first sight. I'm sorry. I thought "They're not gonna play some kind of new metal or emo stuff, aren't they?!" I like that I was wrong, it proves me I'm always wrong to judge. Anyway, they are good! They had some problems with sounds, but it's understandable. The bands had only 20 minutes to set up everything, so some sound problems were predictable at some point during the gig. About the band itself, the guys play a brutal and hardcore Death Metal, with a strong and deep growling. And what a growl! Gosh, the singer's voice is so impressive! Directly from Hell! I personally can't listen to this kind of music for hours, because I start to be aggressive, but the 45 minutes was just perfect to appreciate their style. If brutality is what you're looking for, check them out!


Because they were 8 bands and I don't want to write 5 pages for this post, I cut it half through, and write about the four last bands in the next post, which should be up in a few days, so stay tuned! You have enough stuff to check out anyway!
